How US Citizenship and Immigration Services Benefits the Nation

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is a component of the Department of Homeland Security charged with the duty of providing immigration benefits to individuals who have a right to reside in the country. Whether a person is entitled to stay in the country on a permanent or temporary basis does not matter. The agency can do one or all of the following for any qualified candidate:

  • Grant U.S citizenship
  • Authorize aliens to work in the United States
  • Authorize aliens to reside in the country permanently

Before you reap any of these benefits, USCIS will require you to fill some forms. It has designed several official forms for this purpose, and you need to choose one that best suits your needs. Here are some of the most popular ones that you can consider:

Form EOIR-29

This is one of the forms that the USCIS can require you to file if you want the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of being a US citizen. Some of these benefits are:

  • Cannot be deported
  • Have one of the most powerful passports
  • Can obtain special federal benefits
  • Children become US citizens automatically
  • No need to deal with immigration paperwork
  • Can apply for jobs with US government
  • Can vote in elections
  • Can run for elective office

Due to these benefits and more, some people enter into marriage relationships with the sole intention of cheating on the system to become American citizens. The USCIS is on the lookout and denies such people the opportunity to stay in the country. However, if your marriage is legal and you have experienced a marriage-based visa denial, you can file Form EOIR-29. Provide the required information, and the agency will lift the restriction.

Form I-129S

Non-citizens who work for US-based companies with offices outside the country can successfully petition the USCIS to classify as L-1 nonimmigrant intracompany transferees. Many companies file this form and then bring their workers into the United States without any restrictions. The employer should answer all the applicable questions in the 8-page document. Even though there is no filing fee, each petitioner must pay a non-refundable $500 Fraud Prevention and Detection Fee.

Form I-130

US citizens and lawful permanent residents use this form to establish their relationship with their relatives who wish to get a Green Card or come to the country for a while. Once the USCIS has approved this petition, your relative can apply to become a lawful permanent resident. The submission or approval of Form I-130 gives the relative no benefit or immigration status. However, it is a critical step towards achieving your dream. If you prove that the individual is an immediate relative, you get an immigrant visa without delay. The relative can file Form I-485 if he or she is already in the United States and is eligible for Greed Card. USCIS encourages citizens to report suspected immigration benefit abuse and fraud.
